Symptoms:
Samsung Data Migration v.3.0 error 301001 [0497c9] when attempting to clone a source disk (C:) to a target disk, in this case a Samsung 850 EVO 120 GB SSD.
- Computer configuration included C:, D:, and G: storage drives.
- The Samsung 850 EVO was connected via a SATA-to-USB cable on a Windows 7 computer.
Findings:
A Google search for the error code returned the following page: [SOLVED] Samsung Data Migration “An error occurred while writing to the Target Disk” 301001
Resolution:
- Power off the computer.
- Disconnect all storage devices except for the C: drive.
- Connect the target drive to the secondary internal drive connection (SATA and power cable used for D: drive).
- Power on the computer.
- Allow Windows to install drivers for target storage disk.
- Open Samsung Data Migration and re-attempt the disk cloning.
